In this hypersonic age we live in, one can find it very difficult to take a step back and say “let’s chill here for 5”. As I write this, looking out the window, I see construction workers hammering away, I see cars zoom by and wonder, have these people taken 5 minutes today?

Taking a moment seems like an effortless thing to do, but how good are we at actually doing it? This post sounds like me just asking hypothetical questions instead of giving potential answers on how you can take a moment. So, let’s flip it, here are some tips to help you try and get 5 minutes.

  • Take it early in the morning – Morning coffee is my black gold, and I try to make the most of it. This is where I get my 5 minutes (ok, maybe longer) so maybe you can too.
  • Lunch hour – How about trying to get out of the office/home where you currently work and just take a walk. Do this without your screens and just take in the environment/world around you.
  • In the evening time, after the kids have been put to bed, just sit in your favourite spot and relax, try not to automatically reach for the tv remote.
  • During your 5 minutes if you really need to have your phone on you, turn on aeroplane mode and think of it as your phone getting its 5 minutes also.

Try it out, and feel free to let me know how it goes.

Food for thought.

Till next time, Stay Stoic,
